Angus Paul 'On a Flight of Furious Fancies' Chenin Blanc, Polkadraai Hills 2023
A rising star of South African wine, Angus Paul's 'On a Flight of Furious Fancies' Chenin is from a vineyard planted in 1988 in the Polkadraai Hills and matured in old 300-litre oak barrels. The result is an intense and textural chenin with flavours of spiced apricot, candied pineapple and sea spray with an almond-peel finish that lingers long on the palate.Producing wines from southern Stellenbosch in a custom crush at Karibib, Angus Paul is very much part of the 'new' new wave of South African wine. Already with a number of vintages under his belt he's producing intellectually challenging and exciting chenin and cinsault from some of the top terroirs of Stellenbosch. All of his labels are designed and drawn by Angus, showing there's seemingly no end to his creative talents.
