Basilisco Aglianico del Vulture Superiore 2013

Red Wine from Italy - S Italy and Islands
0 star rating 0 Reviews
Aglianico can age beautifully and this superiore has had 15 months in first and second use French barrels before an extended ageing in bottle. Now drinking beautifully with a complex sweet balsamic, leather, blackberry and plum perfume that lasts on the finish.

Deep garnet. Spreads across the palate and finishes with quite an astringent punch. Sour plum flavours – I wonder whether my mini-bottle sample is in perfect condition. Very drying finish. 15.5/20

From the volcanic soils of Basilicata, 100% aglianico aged 12 months, 50% in French oak, 50% in steel. A really pleasing, elegant but rounded nose of pure red plum and cherry, a little hint of something floral too. Mouthfilling and ripe fruit is offset by firm, really quite grippy tannins, and a solid core of rippling acidity that marries with the ripe fruit in the long, gently spicy finish. 90/100
