New Horizon Barbecue Reds
Wines included
Brazin Lodi Old-Vine Zinfandel 2020
A wine that lives up to its name, this brazen zinfandel from California is a full-bodied, rich and powerful red, with concentrated blackberry and damson fruit profile, with mocha, sarsaparilla and sweet spice developing. A great red to pair with a steak, barbecue or burger, although the soft tannins mean it is a comforting glass by itself.
Bogle California Petite Sirah 2019
A full-bodied, bold and intense red from old vines mostly grown in the warm Lodi region. With blackberry, mulberry and vanilla flavours this is a big, juicy red that really packs a punch.
Quimay Valle de Uco La Consulta Malbec 2022
Made from a 30-year-old vineyard in the very cool La Consulta region, at an altitude of over 1000 metres. Fine floral aromas and red- and black-fruit with a silky textured palate that is ripe yet fresh. Fermented with 30% whole bunches in cement vats, then matured for nine months in 3rd and 4th use barrels.
The Society's South African Pinotage-Syrah, Coastal Region 2023
Soft, chillable and so easy to enjoy, this is a delicious ambassador for the quality, value and finesse South Africa`s reds can offer. The country`s signature grape, pinotage, is blended expertly with syrah and handled gently in the winery by the outstanding Radford Dale team, resulting in a joyful, cherry-scented Wine Champion. Radford Dale are a brilliant case study in pioneering sustainable practices, despite challenging circumstances. They employ practical low-intervention solutions in the vineyards such as encouraging raptors to manage pests, and creating a natural water purification system with reeds. They also run a trust using revenue from the sale of wines of the Land of Hope range to fully pay all educational costs for the children of their black employees.
Forage Supply Co ‘The Breaker' Barossa Valley Shiraz-Grenache 2023
Classic, luxurious and mellow, this iteration of The Breaker Blend has been blended by our Australia buyer especially for Society members. 55% shiraz, almost all from vines 45 to 55 years old bring brooding depth, concentration and plushness. The 45% grenache from Forage's 'Baby Block' is just eight years old and brings primary fruit, lift and vibrancy to the wine.
Lascar Classic Carmenère 2023
This Chilean carmenère is a good entry-level example of this variety, with its black-pepper nose and ripe, juicy and succulent palate.
