The Society's Beaujolais-Villages 2022
A Wine Champion in 2023 following our extensive blind tastings. 'Fabulous purity` and ‘lipsmacking freshness` secured victory for this delightful 2022, primed, said Sebastian Payne MW, for a ‘delicious steak` and a high probability of finishing the bottle!
The Society's 150th Anniversary Moulin-à-Vent 2019
The elements of the blend that make up this delicious Beaujolais come from four well-known and well-respected growers in the Moulin-à-Vent appellation. Just under 10% of the wine was aged in small three and four year old oak barrels, not to impart obvious oak flavour but instead to add to the texture and structure of the palate. This is a deliciously mellow, mature cru Beaujolais, with mid-ruby colour and a nose of brambles and dried herbs. Perfect with charcuterie, roast chicken or goose, or a mushroom ragout. Refined and classy cru Beaujolais. For more on the story of this wine, please scroll down.
The Wine Society's Generation Series Régnié 2022
Made in partnership with Maison Jacques Dépagneux, this is a juicy, ripe gamay from from two well-respected growers with well-sited vineyards in Régnié, mainly on southeast facing slopes. The wine, from the excellent 2022 vintage, was matured in stainless steel tanks to ensure maximum fruit expression, depth of flavour and purity. Fleurie, Domaine la Portelle 2018
A soft, mellow, highly satisfying fully mature Fleurie from an impeccable source, this was aged in small wooden barrels and is now showing Burgundy-like mellowness. It displays the hallmark perfume so typical of the wines of Fleurie. A Beaujolais cru perfect for drinking now.
Beaujolais Quincié, Stéphane Aviron 2023
From Quincié, considered one of the finest of the Beaujolais villages, this has a bouquet of crushed raspberries, a burst of ripe fruit on the palate and a bright, clean finish.
Brouilly, Domaine des Coteaux de Font Curé 2023
From a high-altitude vineyard, this tastes more like a Côte de Brouilly with its intense, brambly fruit character and silky texture. Attractive, well-priced cru Beaujolais.
