Beaujolais Small Wonders
Wines included
Moulin-à-Vent La Rochelle, Domaine Romanesca 2022
From a small parcel of 50+ year old vines in the famed La Rochelle vineyard, this is a deeply-coloured, concentrated Moulin-à-Vent with sweet tannins and a lingering finish. Pair with confit of duck or a mushroom risotto.
Moulin-à-Vent Clos des Pérelles, Château de Beauregard 2022
A full and ripe wine with lovely dark-berry fruit. Produced from vines planted on clay-based soils, this is a fuller style of Beaujolais, with freshness and lift. Delicious now, but will keep for years.
Fleurie, Clos de la Roilette 2022
Alain Coudert’s much-admired wine comes from one of the best sites in Fleurie, whose vines border Moulin-à-Vent, giving this red the perfume of the former and the body of the latter. A winning combination! Pure, polished and very classy.
Fleurie Origines, Domaine Grégoire Hoppenot 2022
A beautifully floral expression of Fleurie from rising star Grégoire Hoppenot. He says that his job is to convey the purest expression terroir and vintage, and he works hard among the vines to achieve that. Bags of character here.
Morgon Les Charmes, Dominique Piron 2023
Living up to it’s name, Piron’s 'Les Charmes' 2023, planted on ancient soils, is juicy, supple and charming with seductive raspberry, wild-strawberry and violet floral notes. There is a subtle power brimming in this wine of great purity and honesty.
Moulin-à-Vent Les Thorins, Domaine du Moulin d'Eole 2023
A plump, silky Moulin-à-Vent from the famous Thorins vineyard, with fleshy, ripe-red fruit notes and a long, pure finish. Terrific value.
