Beeslaar Pinotage, Stellenbosch 2020
This wine earned a place on our Wine Champions winning podium this year, to add to its five Platter stars. Winemaker Abrie Beeslaar (Cellarmaster at Kanonkop, so knows a thing or two about how to make a great pinotage) made just 47 barrels of this velvety rich yet elegant pinotage with cherry and dark-berry fruit and fine tannin structure. Platter's 5* 2023: 'Accomplished 20 ***** (95) echoes the opulent yet elegant styling of 19 (94) in its fragrant blackberry, cherry & plum fruit, laced with spice on a supple, polished frame of tannin & 40% new oak, 20 months. Persistent, with potential for lengthy ageing, especially in magnum'.
