Finca Muñoz Colección de la Familia Tempranillo, Castilla 2021
A big, bold and deeply coloured red that expresses the warmth and ripeness of the Spanish heat in La Mancha. Blackberry and spice are enhanced with toasty oak notes. The Society's Argentine Malbec 2023
This is the ideal introduction to Argentine malbec. It has a forthcoming floral aroma with some black-fruit character and a fresh, round and balanced palate. It's mainly from the Valle de Uco for aroma and intensity of flavour with some Agrelo fruit for richness. It is produced exclusively for The Wine Society by Dominio del Plata, a winery owned by one of Argentina`s most celebrated winemakers, Susana Balbo. A gaucho rides on a sheepskin covered saddle which is illustrated on the new label.
Côtes-du-Rhône Rive Droite Rive Gauche 2023
A stunning, fruit-packed wine with easy charm. The name was conjured up because this wine is sourced from both banks of the Rhône, with the grenache coming mainly from the left and the syrah from the village of Daumazan, near the Pont du Gard, on the right bank.
The Wolftrap, Western Cape 2023
Produced by Boekenhoutskloof, this is a popular, super-reliable, rich and spicy blend of Swartland syrah, with mourvèdre and a splash of viognier for aromatics. A versatile and comforting South African red.
The Society's Australian Shiraz 2022
Aside from being good people, Bleasdale also make wines that consistently overperform, even in more challenging vintages. This is a prime example. It's wonderfully vibrant, bold, generous and fruity, with flavours of black cherry, blueberry and blackberry. Given the outstanding quality of the 2021 vintage, its no surprise that this may well be the best ever release of this wine.
Côtto Douro Tinto 2020
A good, honest and straight forward entry into the red wines of the stunning Douro Valley. This is a blend of touriga nacional, touriga franca and sousão and is a dark-fruited and mellow wine which is easy drinking without lacking concentration of flavour. A really solid house wine which captures the depth and intensity of Douro reds at a very reasonable price. Quinta do Côtto is a well-established winery which enjoyed a stellar reputation for many years but went off the boil for a while until it's new owners gave it much needed investment.
