Barolo Case Nere, Enzo Boglietti 2008
2008 had a warm start to the season but as September arrived so did the cooling temperatures, leading to a vintage known for its pure red fruit but good structures. This aged release is directly from Enzo Boglietti's winery cellar stock, and is beautifully perfumed now with dried red cherry, autumn leaves and spice.

Boglietti
Enzo Boglietti is a relative newcomer to the scene in Barolo. Prior to his inheritance of the family-owned vineyards, the grapes had previously been sold in bulk to other producers. When Enzo assumed control in 1991, he soon set about retaining his precious grapes to vinify under the Boglietti name. It is very much a family affair here – Enzo oversees work in the cantina whilst his father and brother tend the vineyards with scrupulous care. As one might expect the dynamic Enzo is not shy of modern techniques, including the use of high-toast small barrels where deemed appropriate.
Most of the 12-hecatres of Boglietti vineyard holdings lie on the so-called ‘golden slope’ of La Morra, the most charming and forward of the Barolo communes. Along the slope are top sites including Brunate, Case Nere and Fossati. These south-facing parcels of land produce some of Barolo’s most profound wines.
