Cardiff - Southern France growers - Walkaround tasting
We're delighted to be welcoming producers and representatives to showcase the wines found in Southern France for this tasting.
Did you know that if you were to try one new wine every evening, it would take you eight years to taste your way across the wine regions of France?!
There’s more to this vast, vine-carpeted country than Bordeaux, Champagne, the Loire and the Rhône, and for sheer originality and good value, its less travelled wine routes, especially those in the South, beg to be explored. The south-western regions of Cahors, Gaillac, Bergerac and Madiran, with their stylistic nod to neighbouring Bordeaux, have a charm all their own and the sweet wines of Monbazillac are eminently affordable alternatives to Sauternes. Further to the south-east the Languedoc-Roussillon, a huge region which produces more wine than the entire of Australia, offers fantastic value for money with rich reds and whites made from carignan, cinsault, maccabeu and clairette.
Provence, traditionally famous for its beautifully perfumed pinks, is now becoming increasingly renowned for its rich reds and fragrant whites and not to forget Corsica, part of France, but very much its own man with characterful indigenous grapes like nielluccio and scacciarello.
Add to these the reds and rosés of the mountainous Auvergne region, appreciated in France but rarely outside and we’d say we have a real tasting on our hands!
We are delighted to be joined by a host of producers and representatives from these dynamic regions as this informal walkaround event brings together some of France’s best regional producers, including Laplace from Madiran, Cave Saint-Verny from the Auvergne, and Domaine Tariquet from Gascony.
We do hope that you will be able to join us.
