Catherine Marshall Pinot Noir on Clay, Cape South Coast 2023

0 star rating 0 Reviews
From grapes sources from cooler clay soils across Elgin and the Hemel-en-Aarde the long, slow maturation results in a denser, darker and riper style of pinot in comparison to Cathy's ethereal pinot noir on sandstone. With fuller-body and chunkier tannins this will develop more savoury truffle character alongside the damson and black cherry notes with a bit of time in bottle.

Catherine Marshall Wines

Cathy Marshall is well known throughout the South African wine industry, generous with her advice both officially and unofficially, and now one of the leading lights in the relatively new Elgin region.

She started bottling her own wines in 1997, and her style is understated, lending itself well to the cooler climate of the Elgin valley, where longer hang time for the grapes allows ripeness without excessive alcohol or unripe tannins. Pinot noir is a long-term passion, but sauvignon blanc, merlot, and now chenin blanc are her main focus, made at shared winery Valley Green.
