Château Laroze, Saint-Emilion 2015

5.000000000 star rating 1 Reviews
The right bank of Bordeaux was particularly good in 2015, and this attractive, cedar and cigar-box scented claret is developing beautifully. Medium-weight, with lovely balance and complexity. Proper old-school Saint-Emilion.

Château Laroze

The château is situated at the foot of the coteau de Saint-Emilion, below the beautiful medieval hilltop town itself. The current owners, the Meslin family, are direct descendants of the original owners, the Gurchys, producers since 1610. There are 27 hectares of vineyard planted 68% merlot, 26% cabernet franc, 6% cabernet sauvignon with vines averaging 20 years of age.

Biodynamic viticulture was practised from 1991 to 1998 then dropped in favour of a more pragmatic but still careful approach and vineyard practices remain environmentally conscious, without the use of chemical weedkillers or fertilisers.
