This multi-vintage cuvée has zesty aromas of citrus, both red and green apple, and subtle toasty notes. Bright and dry on the entry, with a creamy mousse, this is an effortlessly balanced Champagne with emerging oat-biscuity character and expressive red berry fruit. Comprising 80% pinot noir and 20% chardonnay, there is roundness and silky integration on the palate from fermentation and maturation in oak barrels. The finish is elegant with a twist of salinity. Henri Giraud is a Champagne house which flies under the radar (they farm 30 hectares, of which they own 10) and is deserving of your attention if you enjoy richer, serious styles of Champagne with real depth.
