Chianti Classico, Querciabella 1998
This parcel of delicious, mature Chianti Classico has come straight from Querciabella's cellars to The Wine Society, after more than two decades of perfect storage. Evocative aromatic of leather and spice, orange peel and dried red berries, and sundried tomato. This is all tertiary on the nose but still has brilliant freshness and vibrancy on the palate, with a salty mineral element, and a resolved, velvety feel to the tannins. With more texture and depth than one might expect from just 12.5% alcohol, this is a testament to the ageing capacity of the best Chianti Classicos. It finishes tangy, and long, with an iron-tinged earthiness. Perfect for this Easter (it will be glorious with roast lamb), drink this year and next. Allow any sediment to settle before opening and ideally extract the cork with a two-prong wine opener. Decant before serving. 12.5%
