Domaine de la Semellerie stretches over 39 hectares of some of the best land on the hillsides in the village. The vines, averaging 20 to 35 years of age, are ideally situated, facing southwards dominating the Vienne valley and planted on clay silica soils with an abundance of pebbles which ensure that the grapes reach maturity. They also guarantee perfect drainage and retain the heat of the sun during the day which is then absorbed by the grapes during the night.

Fabrice Delalande

Fabrice Delalande is the sixth generation of Delalandes to work his family's vineyards in Chinon and three generations live in a farmhouse among the vines. He joined his father in 1989 and at that point the family decided to begin bottling their own wine instead of selling only to négociants.

The vines, averaging 20 to 35 years of age, are ideally situated, south facing, and planted on clay silica soils with an abundance of pebbles which ensure that the grapes reach perfect maturity as well as aiding drainage.

Loire Valley Vintage 2012 Anjou Touraine

The year was a tricky one as a damp spring presaged a difficult harvest. Generally a good vintage rather than a great one, with reduced yields, but there are some great examples of Muscadet (where 2012 is a great vintage and many wines of great vitality were made). Chinon, Bourgueil, Menetou-Salon, Sancerre (both sauvignon and pinot noir), and Pouilly-Fumé fared well too. Lighter whites, sauvignons in Touraine and good chenin in Vouvray and Montlouis, are still fruity and refreshing, and sparkling whites are successful.
