A delicious, perfumed vintage of this perennial favourite Margaux, now at its drinking peak. In the 2012 vintage, a fitting 12% petit verdot was used, adding greater depth to the fine, ripe merlot and cabernet. This wine is a Museum Release: thanks to our member-owned co-operative model, our buyers are able to buy wines to mature in the perfect conditions of our temperature-controlled cellars and release them when they are ready to enjoy.
Volpaia’s high-altitude Chianti demonstrates why such vineyards are so prized in the region as warmer vintages become the norm. These organically worked mountainside vines were able to produce something special in 2019 which was singled out for its red-fruited character, spicy complexity, purity and poise at our 2021 Wine Champions tasting.
Made with grapes mostly from the majestic Alsace grand cru Schoenenbourg in Riquewihr, Hugel's redesigned Estate Riesling, formerly labelled as ‘Tradition’, is deliciously ripe, with fresh acidity.
We remain incredibly proud of this wine’s pedigree and history, so naturally our tasters were overjoyed to see the seal of boutique producer Alfred Gratien peek out from its bottle bag as a Wine Champion in 2020. Fermented for longer in old oak and aged extensively prior to release, this generations-standing favourite is on reassuringly showstopping form. The blend is made up of all three Champagne grape varieties (chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier) from excellent sources. Because fermentation takes place in barrel rather than stainless steel, the wine is given more depth. The malolactic fermentation is suppressed so the wine retains a high level of acidity and, therefore, an ability to age very well. The style of Gratien, dry, full-flavoured, very long and well rounded, is quite distinctive. Enjoy on its own or with food.
A sumptuous, weighty Rhône white mainly from Jaboulet’s famed Thalabert vineyard. The 2017 is a 50:50 blend of marsanne and roussanne, with some oak-ageing for greater complexity. A great food wine – try it with fish pie or cheese sauces.
One of South Africa's most loved Bordeaux-style blends in a top, award-winning vintage, deeply coloured, classically styled but rich and ripe, with elegant tannins and a long finish.
