Wines included

Château Pierbone, Haut-Médoc 2010

From the superlative 2010 vintage, this is a perfectly ready-for-drinking blend of 68% cabernet sauvignon and 32% merlot. With deep colour and an appealing cedar and leather bouquet, the wine has lovely balance, despite the heat of the vintage. Smooth, satisfying claret.

France £14.95 per bottle

El Mondongo Garnacha, Calatayud 2018

Calatayud is one of Spain's less famous wine regions but one that grows some of the country's finest garnacha grapes, as evidenced by this silky-smooth, long and succulent example. A powerful and perfumed wine of immense depth and class.

Spain

Moselle ‘Les Hautes-Bassières' Pinot Noir, Château de Vaux 2019

The Molozay's pioneering estate lies amidst an almost forgotten vineyard in the Moselle Valley near Metz in north-east France, previously decimated by phylloxera and war. Biodynamics are employed – for the environment, and the wines – producing a deep-coloured pinot with cherry and blackberry fruit and gentle tannins.

France

Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore Capitel San Rocco, Tedeschi 2018

Ripasso styles can really offer the best of both worlds, retaining freshness and cherry fruit from the corvina grape, but gaining a little more depth, weight and complexity from the Amarone grape skins that the wine has been 'passed over', creating an Italian red of persistent flavour.

Italy £16.00 per bottle

Weinert Carrascal Corte Tinto Mendoza 2018

Delicious winter drinking from one of our members’ favourite Argentine reds. A blend of 40% malbec, 35% cabernet sauvignon and 25% merlot, this was matured for a year in large old foudres and six months in concrete until the bright fruit flavours have been transformed to gentle, mellow notes of cedar, leather and tobacco.

Argentina £10.95 per bottle

Wirra Wirra McLaren Vale Church Block 2018

An Aussie classic and long-time favourite of Society members, Church Block is a full-bodied blend of cabernet, shiraz and merlot. If you have time, decanting this wine will really bring its blackberry and black-pepper character to life.
