Wines included
Nero d'Avola La Ferla, Sicilia 2019
Nero d'Avola retains great freshness despite the long Sicilian summer days. This juicy red has a soft, full mouthfeel with cherry and plum flavours.
Three Terraces Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2021
With lots of bright grapefruit and lemon zest aromas and a juicy palate, this extremely popular New Zealand white balances intensity with freshness beautifully.
Anna's Way Nelson Grüner Veltliner 2021
This exciting and fashionable Austrian grape is perfectly suited to Nelson on New Zealand's South Island. From the superb but small 2021 vintage, this has a bright peach and lemon-scented aroma, dry refreshing palate and a citrus-led finish. The best non-Austrian grüner veltliner our buyer Freddy Bulmer has tasted.
Vasco and The Explorers Alvarinho, Coastal 2021
Portugal's alvarinho grape made by Nederburg is a light, citrusy dry white with a crisp finish. Try it with calamari or scampi.
Diemersdal Cape Blend, Western Cape 2020
From the fairly newly designated appellation Wine of Origin Cape Town, fanned by cooling breezes which bring freshness to the dark fruits and spice in this Cape Blend comprising 30% of the essential pinotage, with 32% merlot and 38% cabernet sauvignon.
Fairview Chenin-Grenache Blanc, Darling 2021
One of the giants of Cape wine, all Fairview’s wines are Fairtrade accredited. This exclusive blend combines the bright stone fruit and body of chenin blanc with the floral fragrance and texture of grenache, finishing crisp and refreshing.
The Society's English White 2021
Our flagship English white comes from Three Choirs in Gloucestershire, from the refreshing and aromatic 2021 vintage, with aromas of white-fruits, citrus and gooseberry, and a light, structured and pure palate. A blend of Madeleine Angevine, solaris, orion, seyval blanc, reichensteiner and bacchus, this is a delicious dry white and a real success story from such a tricky English vintage.
Wirra Wirra Scrubby Rise Shiraz 2020
A superb example of affordable and generous McLaren Vale shiraz. This Australian red offers lovely ripe juicy red fruit on the nose, with bramble and violets. The palate is full-bodied but fresh, with a silky texture and spice.
Bin #011 Alicante 2021
Ollieux-Romanis is a large estate in Corbières with over a century of growing the red-fleshed grape Alicante Bouschet. They use it in many of their red wines, such as the Society’s Corbières, though never more than one or two percent. In generous years they sometimes make a blend of carignan and Alicante which works well. But buyer Marcel Orford-Williams liked the idea of a pure Alicante and is thrilled by the result. Obviously very deep purple colour, fragrant with plum very evident. Tannins are soft and the finish fruity with maybe a hint of spice. It can be enjoyed cellar cool or even lightly chilled, perfect with a barbecue but best kept away from a white tablecloth!
Almazuela Blanco 2021
A refreshing white made from organic verdejo grapes and a Rueda in all but name as the grapes come from very fine vineyards there. Dry and unoaked with pungent tropical-fruit flavour.
Cape Heights Cabernet Sauvignon, Western Cape 2021
Fruity and gently spicy South African cabernet, with cassis and pepper notes, this would make an easy party wine.
Valpolicella, Allegrini 2021
Medium-bodied, vibrant red-berry and cherry-fruit-driven fresh red from the Veneto in northern Italy.
