Château Saint Estève, Rondoletto, IGP Méditerranée 2021

Red Wine from France - Rhone
5.000000000 star rating 2 Reviews
The cinsault grape is the secret behind this attractively refreshing, light-tasting red Rhône with comparatively low alcohol. A little syrah then brings colour and fruit. Owner Marc Français serves this harmonious red to visitors at his Liszt recitals at the château!

Château Saint-Estève

This was one of the first estates in this part of France to bottle its own wines in the 1960s. The extensive, organically certified vineyards border on the Massif d'Uchaux, a large and heavily wooded range of hills that border the left bank of the Rhône north of Orange.

Constant cool breezes create a definite microclimate here and perfect conditions for ripening grapes, especially grenache and syrah. A few years ago this was officially recognised with the creation of a new villages appellation, Massif d'Uchaux. Saint-Estève reserve this for their top wines.

Light to mid purplish crimson. Smells of summer with an uncanny echo of Cabernet Franc on the nose – that leafy dark-fruit scent. Light-bodied, scented on the palate too – a great achievement to have made such a fresh and fragrant summer red in this part of the world. Even though it is light and fresh, it is not simple, with a depth of fruit and a touch of spice on the finish. Good value.
