Dragon Langhe Bianco, Luigi Baudana 2023

4.000000000 star rating 1 Reviews
An unusual but brilliant Italian blend of chardonnay, nascetta, sauvignon and riesling. Delightful ripe but crisp white of real charm made by the Vajra family in Serralunga, Barolo country. Green-apple, peach and chalk notes last well on the finish. Winners of our 2024 Climate & Nature fund, Vajra will use funding to improve the biodiversity of the cover crop through indigenous flora seeding with hedgerow planting to support local fauna and a comprehensive review of the estate’s forestry.

Luigi Baudana

Luigi Baudana is the last scion of one of the oldest wine families of Serralunga d'Alba. His winery has been a secret for a bunch of fortunate wine lovers for over thirty years, producing a limited amount of Barolo and other wines.

In 2003 Luigi and wife Fiorina started to develop their estate and after quite a bit of looking found Giuseppe, Francesca and Isidoro Vajra, children of Aldo and Milena of G.D. Vajra, Barolo. They have the enthusiasm, energies and determination to preserve the past history and prolong the future of this beautiful little jewel.

The three children, in their early twenties, consider themselves 'i guardiani' (the guardians) of this century-old winery and have started operations in 2008 vintage in the Baudana cellar. Farming is sustainable and no chemical manipulation occurs to the wines. Average production is 300 cases of Barolo DOCG Cerretta and 300 cases of Baudana, together with a very small bottling of Langhe made of Chardonnay (95%) and Sauvignon (5%).
