Exhibition Classic Whites
Wines included
The Society's Exhibition Santa Barbara County Chardonnay 2021
Two thirds of this California chardonnay comes from the warmer Rodney's vineyard, and a third from the fog-laden Los Alamos. Picked at night, this wine is fermented in Hungarian and French oak barrels, 20-30% of which are new, creating a wine with great balance of oak and ripe orchard fruit.
The Society's Exhibition Chenin Blanc, Western Cape 2021
This reigning Champ from chenin wizard Chris Alheit couldn`t fail with another year in bottle under its belt. ‘Gorgeous` and ‘super-smart` from South Africa buyer Jo Locke MW. Made from offcuts from his Alheit Vineyards range, this was part barrel-fermented and matured a little longer on the fine lees in 2021, bringing extra breadth and some toasty richness.
The Society's Exhibition Rheingau Riesling 2020
Rheingau rieslings were popular in Victorian times and early Society Lists featured several. We asked leading producer Gunter Künstler to provide a modern take on this German classic. The clean lines and lovely length of flavour are a must with south-east Asian cuisine.
The Society's Exhibition Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2023
Elegant, mineral, citrusy and crisp sauvignon which is a nod in style to the classic sauvignons of France, rather than the more opulent Marlborough stereotype. This is pretty on the nose, with crisp apple and elderflower notes. The palate is focused, infinitely refreshing and shows bright lemon and gooseberry.
The Society's Exhibition Alsace Gewurztraminer 2020
Classically floral perfumed and spicy, this Alsace gewurztraminer has all the heady, aromatic character one expects from the grape with the supporting power of fruit from Hugel's grand cru Sporen vineyard.
The Society's Exhibition Sancerre 2023
The Laloues` first vintage to be certified organic offers finesse, minerality, fine balance and wonderful freshness. Simply cooked salmon or trout would make a fine match, but its soulmate is goat`s milk cheese, melted on a toasted baguette with sharply dressed leaves.
