Château Cos Labory, Saint-Estèphe 2014

Saint-Estèphe enjoyed a particularly good 2014 vintage, as proven by the impressive marks given to this lovely wine at our 2021 Wine Champions tasting. A satisfying and delicious claret, whose interplay between ripe blue fruit, suave savoury character and uplifting acidity all ensured its inclusion.

The Society's 150th Anniversary Margaux 2015

When it came to a Margaux for our anniversary celebrations, we were delighted that Ben Sichel at Château Angludet allowed us to blend our own unique cuvée from 2015, one of the great Margaux vintages of this century. Combining the classic perfume and silky texture associated with the commune, it is 55% cabernet sauvignon, 37% merlot and 8% petit verdot, aged for 12 months in French oak barriques, 35% of which were new. Bottled in July 2017, it has been maturing in our cellars ever since. It is now hitting its sweet spot: scented and pure on the nose, fleshy and succulent on the palate, with notes of violets and a hint of cigar box. The tannins are perfectly rounded and ripe, lending the wine real charm and personality. For more on the story of this wine, please scroll down.

The Wine Society's Generation Series Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux 2020

A fragrant, plummy and satisfying claret from member favourite Château de Pitray, this unique blend was made from the very best grapes of the vintage. Ripe and intense, yet with freshness too. Partially aged in French oak barrels, the wine reveals notes of damsons, dark chocolate and a hint of liquorice on the finish. For more than 40 years we've worked with the de Boigne family and it is a delight to have done so again for this Generation Series wine to celebrate our 150th Anniversary. this is a bespoke blend made from the cream of the 2020 vintage crop. The quality is similar to, though arguably more premium than, the ‘Madame’ cuvée that is normally considered the château’s top wine, and which we offer en primeur most vintages. I was fortunate enough to be given first access to the best tanks and barrels, and was given carte blanche to put together the Generation Castillon from the excellent 2020 vintage. Château Doisy-Daëne Sec, Bordeaux 2021

Poised and harmonious dry sauvignon from a château more noted for its delicious sweet wines, this wine offers aromas of stone-fruit and blossom with a fresh palate. Bordeaux sauvignon blanc at its best. The estate has been owned by the Dubourdieu family since 1924, pioneers and innovators in the making of fine white Bordeaux wines. Wines are harvested by hand which both minimises damage to the vines and eliminates the carbon footprint which would accompany the use of machinery.
