d'Arenberg The Coppermine Road McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
Made from very low-yielding old vines in McLaren Vale. This wine has a great aroma of tobacco leaves, blueberry, cassis and iron. Full-bodied and concentrated on the palate, with notes of liquorice, black fruit and slate. Complex and with incredible potential for ageing.
Robert Oatley Limited Release Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
2018 was a fantastic Australia vintage, with excellent growing conditions across the country, which is something of a rarity in a country with great distances between regions. Lovely attractive ruby colour with hints of maroon at the rim, the nose offers notes of chocolate, dry earth, black fruit, bark and blackcurrant. The palate is full and firm but with a silky tannin quality and well balanced tannin and acidity. The fruits on the nose continue generous and full. It's very full-bodied but elegant and represents very smart, accomplished winemaking. Sweet spice shows through a little on the long, fine finish.
The Society's 150th Anniversary Mendoza Malbec 2007
Made exclusively for The Society for our 150th anniversary range by Bodega Weinert, this comes from Finca Huarachi which is situated at Perdriel, Mendoza. Its malbec vines were approximately 60 years of age at harvest. It was matured in Tonel number 141, an old oak barrel, for 15 years until bottling in 2022. Oak maturation has mellowed the tannins and concentrated the wine. This is opulently flavoured and the palate shows dark black fruit and notes of leather, with excellent potential for further ageing. Ridge Pagani Ranch Zinfandel 2021
This field blend is 90% zinfandel, 5% petite sirah, 5% Alicante Bouschet from mostly pre-prohibition vines planted and managed by the same family at Pagani Ranch, in California's Sonoma Valley. The positioning of this vineyard means that it sits in an enclave that benefits from the cooling fogs that slip in from the coast for longer each morning. Pure and intense this wine has a bramble, damson and blueberry core that has well balanced but delicious fine oak notes, spice and balance with a long finish. It's a wine that is enjoyable in its youth, but with time will develop layers of forest fruits, baking spice and undergrowth. Exclusive to The Wine Society in the UK thanks to our long relationship with the team at Ridge.
