Fine Wine Whites under £35
Wines included
Château Doisy-Daëne Sec, Bordeaux 2021
Poised and harmonious dry sauvignon from a château more noted for its delicious sweet wines, this wine offers aromas of stone-fruit and blossom with a fresh palate. Bordeaux sauvignon blanc at its best. The estate has been owned by the Dubourdieu family since 1924, pioneers and innovators in the making of fine white Bordeaux wines. Wines are harvested by hand which both minimises damage to the vines and eliminates the carbon footprint which would accompany the use of machinery.
Domaine Gauby, Les Calcinaires Blanc, Côtes Catalanes 2022
Breathtakingly fresh-tasting, fragrant, dry Roussillon white that uses a raft of grape varieties that includes chardonnay and maccabeu, Fruity, flinty and refreshing.
Famille Cordier, Saint-Véran En Faux 2022
From an excellent vineyard in Chasselas, Burgundy, this has a concentrated, rich flavour balanced by an appley freshness. Fermented and matured in 500-litre barrels for eight months.
Soave Classico Calvarino, Pieropan 2022
An outstanding Soave made from organically grown grapes, that remains on yeast lees in glass-lined cement tanks for a year, adding complexity and depth to the final wine. Flavours of green apple, almond, rosemary and oyster shell are well held on this textured fine Italian wine.
Jean-Marc Brocard, Chablis Vignobles Sainte Claire Vieilles Vignes 2022
Made from vines planted in the Malantes vineyard, this is a wonderful pure, crystalline Chablis which would embarrass many a premier cru. The wonderful Malantes site is situated on a hillside that runs roughly parallel to that on which sits Montmains. While Montmains is a premier cru, Malantes, which has a similar exposition but perhaps turns a little more to the east (while Montmains is south-east), is just classed as village Chablis, of which it is a very superior source. A shining light for quality in Chablis, Brocard is also leading the charge to adapt to climate change, which the region is suffering from. With virtually no trees or hedges to mitigate the rising temperatures, they are undertaking to plant 30,000 trees by 2030.
Fess Parker Santa Barbara Chardonnay 2023
Classy California chardonnay in a dry, refreshing style with yellow-apple and citrus flavours that are supported by subtle spice and nuttiness from beautifully integrated French oak. It has the body and richness that many associate with the style, handled with fantastic skill and sensitivity, balancing the fruit generosity with bright acidity.
