Jo Locke Fine Wine Case
Wines included
Château Doisy-Daëne Sec, Bordeaux 2020
Bordeaux sauvignon at its best. A beautifully balanced, harmonious wine displaying hints of cassis leaf and white peach. Doisy-Daëne, known for its wonderful sweet wines, has been owned by the Dubourdieu family since 1924, and was among the first to make a delicious and successful dry white in Doisy Daëne Sec. This wine is produced using a draught horse to work the vineyards and the old vines, minimising any damage during delicate soil tillage. The use of a work horse reduces compaction of the soil as well as carbon emissions.
Van Loggerenberg 'Geronimo' Cinsault, Stellenbosch 2021
The wine most improved by the move to a new cellar at this South African estate, according to Lukas van Loggerenberg, delivering even silkier texture and purity, with hallmark raspberry fruit, exquisite delicacy and freshness.
Grabenwerkstatt Wachauwerk, Grüner Veltliner, Wachau 2022
This wine continues to impress in the 2022 vintage, with a more approachable character than previous years, all while maintaining its hallmark freshness, finesse and intensity. The nose shows lime, aloe vera, pine-needle and lemon-pith notes. The palate is pristine with a delicately spicy character and a slightly more linear structure than previous vintages. Some salinity brings complexity and the delicious bright citrus notes grow on the long finish. A detailed, focused wine from one of Europe's most exciting producers. Decant if drinking young.
Meerlust Estate Rubicon, Stellenbosch 2021
2021 is the 35th release of Meerlust's flagship Cape Bordeaux red blend, Rubicon. Classical notes of cigar-box and graphite, smoke and tobacco are complemented by plush blackberry, cassis, plum and fresh red fruits. On the palate, the wine is elegantly muscular, savoury and persistent, With notes of cigar box and graphite, it is lifted by marked freshness and supported by fine, polished tannins.
Pinot Noir Réserve, Trimbach 2022
The rise and rise of pinot noir has been remarkable. As prices in Burgundy have moved ever skyward, quality elsewhere has improved exponentially, in both hemispheres. This is a young beauty from Alsace, whose pure cherry fruit, light touch of oak and fine tannins will evolve elegantly
Niepoort Redoma Reserva Branco, Douro 2022
Mention the name Dirk to a winemaker and they immediately know it's Dirk Niepoort you are talking about. He has raised the profile and quality of his adopted Douro's whites to a new level. This refined, mineral, high-altitude old-vine Portuguese white was a must buy for us.
