Laderas del Tiétar Garnacha, Gredos 2015

Red Wine from Spain
A renaissance is afoot in this mountain range near Madrid, whose wines tended to fly under the radar and be sold off in bulk. In recent years a group of talented younger producers have spotted the remarkable quality and individuality these vineyards can offer. This is a highly individual and exciting style of Spanish garnacha: aromatic, fresh, and with a beautiful combination of power and vitality.

Jiménez-Landi

The family property of Jiménez-Landi lies in the little-known Méntrida denominación in the north-eastern reaches of the province of Toledo (just south of Madrid). Quality here is undergoing a quiet transformation thanks to new, younger winemakers willing to modernise in vineyard and winery. All the grapes are hand harvested, then carefully fermented spending five months in French oak, which produces a wine with lots of flavour and character. Their Bajondillo red is proving very popular with Society members.

Hailing from the high altitude Gredos Mountains near Madrid, this is a remarkably fresh, refined wine that nods towards pinot noir and cinsault in style. Tangy acidity, raspberry and redcurrant fruit and a long refreshing finish are complemented by silky tannins. Stunning value.
