Lighter-style Reds Case
Wines included
Spätburgunder, Bio, Ruppertsberg 2023
Soft, fruity pinot from the Palatinate in Germany. Packed with ripe cherry flavours, light in structure and refreshing, this could be served lightly chilled. Southern Germany is home to a number of co-operatives, this one being especially good. It is also home to endless numbers of grape varieties. The reason is climate: this is easily the warmest part of Germany, where everything is grown.
The Society's Exhibition Naoussa Xinomavro 2021
An exclusive blend for The Wine Society produced by the master of the xinomavro grape, Apostolos Thymiopoulos. From fruit predominantly from the higher-altitude vineyards of Fytia this is a fragrant and elegant Greek xinomavro with aromas of sweet cherries, raspberries and Oriental spice alongside fresh acidity and sweet tannins.
Gamay, Jacques Dépagneux, Comté Tolosan 2024
A juicy, fruit-driven gamay from the south of France, with all the exuberance of youth. Best drunk lightly chilled.
The Society's Austrian Red 2023
This is a great example of zweigelt, showcasing the wine's charming fruit and refreshing vibrancy. Plump, juicy and fruit-forward, this offers plum, blackcurrant and cranberry flavours, with a peppery undertone and delicate hint of tomato leaf. Familie Mantler is a small, family-owned winery in the sleepy town of Ebersbrunn, Lower Austria and they mature this wine in beautiful very large old oak vats, traditional to the country's winemaking. We have worked with their wines for a few years now and thanks to the excellent value and deliciousness that they offer, they have been a huge hit with members. After an incredibly successful launch under our own label from the 2022 vintage its a pleasure to now offer the juicy and upfront 2023 vintage.
Frappato, Costadune Mandrarossa 2024
This pretty, perfumed, light red comes from vineyards close to the sea near Menfi, in the south of Sicily, and stands out for its fresh rose petal fragrance and raspberry sherbet character. Fruity and fresh, this can be chilled to serve summer-perfect with mixed antipasti.
Domaine Jones Après La Pluie Rouge Vin de France 2024
Après la pluie ...... le beau temps. So the French expression goes. In Tuchan, where Domaine Jones is located, the sunshine is never far away for long, and what could be better than a glass of slightly chilled light and fruity red? Made from a blend of young-vine carignan and grenache, this pale, gentle red is perfect for when the weather warms up, either on its own or with charcuterie, a summer salad, grilled chicken or fish.
