Manchester - Rhone growers - Walkaround tasting
The Southern Rhone is, without doubt, a region worth exploring, home as it is to some of the most characterful, satisfyingly rich and heady blends that the wine-world has to offer. Grenache and mourvèdre dominate, producing wines with substance, generosity and sun-ripened fruit which are the essence of Southern Rhône reds, and it is the promise of such abundance of flavour that has its fans returning again and again.
Producing over 3.5m hectolitres, there is a vast range of styles and quality to be had from wines produced in the Southern Rhône. From the simple and cheerfully fruity Côtes-du-Rhônes, which can offer excellent value for money, through to the heady heights of Châteauneuf-du-pape, whose red wines combine immense strength with perfect elegance, there is something to suit every taste and budget.
However, there are also fascinating whites and rosés to be found, from producers such as Domaine Maby in Tavel and Domaine de Montine from Grignan-les-Adhémar, which serve to provide an elegant counterpoint.
We are delighted to be joined once again by many of the growers and representatives of these remarkable estates, including Domaines Jaume, Morchon and Escaravaille and Clos de Cazeaux, as we take a table-top tour of the vineyards of the Southern Rhône.
