Marcel Malbec, du Cèdre, Vin de France 2022

Red Wine from France - SW France (excl. Bordeaux)
2.900000000 star rating 10 Reviews
Made from Cahors fruit and from one of the top estates, this is a soft, ripe-flavoured red with a twist of raspberry and plum. An uncomplicated red that could even be served slightly chilled. Malbec was once more widely planted having been a much more important varietal in Bordeaux. In Cahors, it is the main varietal, rarely less than 80% in any blend and often more. Malbec needs heat and sunshine to ripen fully and it thrives in the semi-continental climate of this part of the Lot valley.

Château de Cèdre

Léon Verhaeghe settled here from his native Flanders and through successive generations an estate was formed on the land of Cahors. The name of the estate comes from a cedar tree that grows at the entrance of the property.

There are nearly 30 hectares of vineyard, mostly malbec but with a little merlot and tannat to complete the reds and several white grapes including viognier for the growing interest in white wine. In vinification, oak is used for the top wines, which all have excellent ageing potential.
