Wines included
Baccolo Appassimento Rosso Veneto 2021
This popular Veneto red's opulent rich style is achieved by partial natural air-drying of the grapes (a mix of merlot and corvina) to add richness. Black cherry and leather on the nose, with more spice developing on the palate and finish.
Domaine Mallory et Benjamin Talmard, Mâcon-Villages 2022
Plump yet balanced by a certain freshness, this is a great example of the full-flavoured, round and fruity style of Mâcon-Villages situated in the warmer, southern region of Burgundy. Fermented in stainless-steel tanks to capture the fruit, and then kept on its yeast lees to enrich the flavour until bottling in the spring.
Navajas Crianza, Rioja 2018
Plenty of barrel in evidence here, but with ‘very good fruit` under it, delivering the goods for members who like their Rioja mellow and oaky. Our tastings panel voted it a Wine Champion for good reason.
Château Lamothe Saint Germain, Bordeaux 2022
Well-balanced blend of 75% merlot and 25% cabernet franc with pure, ripe fruit character and supple texture. A lovely vintage from this popular Bordeaux château.
Percheron Chenin Blanc-Viognier, Coastal Region 2023
Popular Cape White Blend with chenin's tropical and fresh stone-fruit flavour lifted by a little aromatic viognier.
Côtes-du-Rhône, Château Courac 2019
From one of the great Rhône vintages, this is completely outstanding. Deep flavours of strawberry, spiced cherry and crushed herbs abound. This is very full-bodied yet perfectly balanced.
Les Pierres Bordes Marsanne-Viognier, Pays d'Oc 2023
This marriage of two Rhône grape varieties from the Minervois/Saint-Chinian border is now a firm member favourite. Fresh, round, full-flavoured and moreishly fruity.
Duo Des Mers Sauvignon-Viognier, Vin de France 2023
A gem of a wine and a worthy 2024 Wine Champion. As one taster put it, ‘this tasted like the south of France. Characterful, easy to like, cracking value.` So many members turn to this happy union of zingy Gascon sauvignon blanc and fragrant peachy Languedoc viognier for summer refreshment, and it was easy to see why during our blind tastings.
Cuvée Laborie, Pays d'Oc 2023
Uncomplicated charm doesn`t get more charming than this. A popular southern French red and a Wine Champion in 2024, Laborie was given a makeover in 2023 to include some especially good, crunchy syrah fruit. Tasted blind among its peers, it was a resounding hit: ‘So much fruit, juicy and user friendly. Incredible value.`
Lascar Classic Carmenère 2023
This Chilean carmenère is a good entry-level example of this variety, with its black-pepper nose and ripe, juicy and succulent palate.
Picpoul de Pinet, Domaine Félines Jourdan 2023
One of the best-value whites from the south of France. Full-flavoured and dry, yet with crisp freshness and a beguiling citrus and herb flavour. The 2023 has a lovely sense of balance with weight of fruit as well as grip.
Sauvignon Blanc 'Pure Vallée' Vin de France, Famille Bougrier 2023
This wine combines Loire and southern French fruit for a delicate, slightly tropical aroma, and easy, creamy finish.
