Château Virevalois, Bordeaux 2022
One of our best-selling clarets, showing richness, freshness, a fleshy texture and a hint of spicy complexity. This 65-hectare estate is to be found at Cantois, south of Libourne, in the heart of Entre-Deux-Mers. Great value.
Baccolo Appassimento Rosso Veneto 2022
This popular Veneto red's opulent rich style is achieved by partial natural air-drying of the grapes (a mix of merlot and corvina) to add richness. Black cherry and leather on the nose, with more spice developing on the palate and finish.
Minervois, Plasir d'Eulalie, Château Sainte Eulalie 2023
Generous, ripe and full-flavoured Languedoc red, ripe and fruity, round and plummy in a vintage where very low yields concentrated flavours in the juice. Château Sainte Eulalie is an outstanding 34-hectare estate spread over the Aude Valley, on the south side of the Montagne Noire. Since 1996 it has been run by Laurent and Isabelle Coustal who are responsible for its excellent reputation.
Navajas Crianza, Rioja 2019
A flattering and expressive Rioja full of vanilla and red-fruit flavour made in the oaky style. It is consistently a favourite of members' year after year. Navajas get their hands on some of the finest fruit from Rioja`s best vineyards. They used to sell the fruit on to the big names, including CVNE, but now, wisely, have decided to keep it for themselves.
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Vigna Corvino 2023
Rocco Pasetti makes the most attractive example we know of this Italian classic. Full-bodied and bursting with gutsy ripe cherry and redcurrant with plenty of spice on the finish. A juicy and fulfilling example of this great grape. It's absolutely perfect for enjoying with pizza or pasta dishes of all kinds.
Sabina Tempranillo, Navarra 2023
A modest, inexpensive Spanish red from the country's most famous grape. This is smooth, fruity and more mellow than usual with a touch of cedar. Everything about Bodegas Príncipe de Viana is vast. Owners of over 400 hectares of vines in Navarra, they control a further 500 hectares, but the winemaking approach is sensitive and modest, aiming always for clean, balanced flavours and offering superb value for money.
Feudo Arancio Nero d'Avola, Sicilia 2022
This Sicilian red is all about the fruit, with ripe strawberry and blackberry character, and a soft, succulent mouthfeel. Balanced and medium-bodied, this is perfect with or without food. The estate on which the nero d'avola for this wine is grown works to conserve the local flora and has catalogued rare species of orchids on their land. As a further move to improve biodiversity, Feudo Arancio has planted a lemon grove inside the stone quarries on the estate and thus rehabilitated previously damaged land. They also grow olives, oranges, and prickly pears.
Côtes-du-Rhône, Château Courac 2021
A lighter-style Côtes-du-Rhône thanks to the vintage, and one that is drinking very well with lots of juicy accessibility and balance. Red-berry fruits and red-cherry notes combine with subtle black-pepper spice.
Lascar Classic Carmenère 2024
This Chilean carmenère is a good entry-level example of this variety, with its black-pepper nose and ripe, juicy and succulent palate.
Cuvée Laborie, Pays d'Oc 2024
The 2024 vintage marks a return to the classic Laborie blend of carignan and grenache, with a splash of merlot adding suppleness. Brilliant value southern French red delivering fresh, uncomplicated fruit and soft tannins.
Cantoiseau Rouge, Vin de France 2024
A well-rounded, soft, fruity red from the Languedoc. There's a touch of spice that creates a little complexity. Great value.
Pinot Noir 'Pure Vallée', Vin de France, Famille Bougrier 2024
Popular well-rounded Loire pinot, light and fresh, with bright, red-berry and cherry fruit. Best served on the cooler side, this is an easy-drinking lunchtime red.
