Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Gran Sasso 2023
A 2025 Wine Champion. It was adjudged ‘A crowd-pleaser’ of a Montepulciano, whose ‘dark, supple, approachable’ character is made all the more inviting by restrained use of oak – just enough to add a little savoury, spicy complexity. For all its plushness and generosity, this Italian red’s sweet, ripe character is balanced with a pleasing freshness.

Farnese Group
Farnese Vini is a young company in Italy who have very quickly established themselves as among the most dynamic in their homeland.
Though they are based in the Abruzzo region in the east, where they own vineyards, they have expanded quickly to acquire holdings across the rest of southern Italy, in Puglia, Campania, Basilicata and Sicily. With the help of renowned consultant and winemaker Alberto Antonini their estates have established an excellent reputation.
The name of the group comes from Princess Margaret of Austria, the wife of Ottavio Farnese, a 16th century Duke of Parma, who was responsible for the planting of their vineyards in Abruzzo. Gran Sasso, Vesevo, Zabù, Vigneti del Salento, Vigneti del Vulture, Cantina di Diomede and Tufarello are all made by the Farnese group from their various regional vineyards.
