Domaine Meyer Fonné
This family-owned domaine in Katzenthal, Alsace was established in the 19th century and now covers 15 hectares of vineyards in seven communes and includes holdings in five grand crus. This diversity of terroirs, from the granitic soils of Katzenthal to the deep clay and sandstone of Riquwihr, gives them a broad spectrum of terroirs to draw on when creating their blends, helping to build complexity into the wines. All these vineyards are farmed sustainably, without herbicides and pesticides.
Félix Meyer is the fourth generation of his family to work this land and make wine since his great-grandfather, also called Félix, established the domaine in the 19th century, and Félix has earned a reputation as a master blender. He took over in 1992 and began a programme of necessary modernisation in the winery while expanding the vineyards, but without losing touch with the traditions of his family and the region as he crafts his aromatic and mineral wines.
