Wines included
Château Monconseil Gazin, Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux 2020
A scented, harmoniously balanced claret made by the highly regarded Jean-Michel Baudet. Two-thirds merlot with the balance cabernet sauvignon and a splash of malbec for added depth. Superb-value Blaye. As recipients of our 2024 Climate & Nature fund, the château wants to build on its already impressive sustainability credentials by planting nearly 1,000m of new hedgerows around their vineyards. Made up of native shrubs the hedges will create wildlife habitats and absorb carbon from the atmosphere.
The Society's Pinot Grigio 2023
This elegant pinot grigio, made exclusively for us, really hits the spot. With lemon and green apples on the nose, there is a refreshing minerality to the mouthfeel that lasts on the crisp finish.
Cantoiseau Blanc, Vin de France 2023
A light, refreshing and fruity French white with sauvignon influencing the fresh, leafy, nettley flavours. It's excellent value, too.
Riesling, Cave de Turckheim 2022
Light, delicate and mineral young Alsace riesling, with a precise and fresh finish. Try it with oysters and other ultra-fresh shellfish, or sushi and sashimi.
Kimi Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2023
Crisp, aromatic and tropical-fruit-driven sauvignon from estate-grown fruit in Marlborough. Kiwi, lime peel and a delicate note of fresh mint on the nose and the palate is refreshing, juicy and remarkably well balanced at the price. And at just 11% alcohol, it's a great option for a refreshing drink, solo or with food.
Spätburgunder, Bio, Ruppertsberg 2023
Soft, fruity pinot from the Palatinate in Germany. Packed with ripe cherry flavours, light in structure and refreshing, this could be served lightly chilled. Southern Germany is home to a number of co-operatives, this one being especially good. It is also home to endless numbers of grape varieties. The reason is climate: this is easily the warmest part of Germany, where everything is grown.
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Vigna Corvino 2023
Rocco Pasetti makes the most attractive example we know of this Italian classic. Full-bodied and bursting with gutsy ripe cherry and redcurrant with plenty of spice on the finish. A juicy and fulfilling example of this great grape. It's absolutely perfect for enjoying with pizza or pasta dishes of all kinds.
Pepp Grüner Veltliner 2023
Crisp, fresh and friendly Austrian white which has a delicate spritz, enhancing the refreshing character of the wine. Apple, peach and lime notes, with a mouthwatering, slightly salty note, which makes this particularly moreish!
Nagyapám Szekszárdi Kadarka, Eszterbauer 2023
Kadarka, also known as gamza and often seen as Hungary's answer to pinot noir, is a light-skinned, floral red grape variety that offers vibrant raspberry fruit, floral aromatics with hints of white pepper and plenty of spice on the palate.
Val de Loire 'Pertinence' Malbec, Réthoré Davy 2023
From a tiny, historic vineyard area of the western Loire, this is a bright and refreshing expression of malbec, made like a pinot noir better to display its silky, fragrant fruit.
AdegaMãe Pinta Negra, Lisboa 2023
Real value here, with plenty of dark brambly fruit, floral aroma and generous mouthfeel. An easy drinking anytime red from Portugal, made from local aragonez (aka tempranillo) and castelão grapes. From Torres Vedras, near Lisbon, a region not yet as well known as it surely will be.
Stonedance Granite White, Piekenierskloof 2024
Impressive Cape White Blend from Piekenierskloof with majority chenin blanc alongside dashes of grenache blanc and palomino. Exclusive to The Wine Society, the chenin and grenache are tank fermented with the palomino seeing used wood resulting in a broad, supple white with flavours of peach, stone fruit and light cedar.
