Off The Beaten Track Reds Case
Öküzgözü-Boğazkere, Vinkara 2019
Juicy, full red wine from Vinkara winery in the heart of Turkey. A blend of two rare indigenous grapes which give dark cherry and chocolate flavours, with concentration and freshness.
Anselmo Mendes Pardusco, Vinho Verde 2020
A thoroughly modern expression of red Vinho Verde from Portugal, low in extract, light and fruity, with herb-scented silky red fruit and a fresh finish.
Domaine du Mage, Cerisier Sauvage, Côtes de Gascogne 2020
This is a lovely, fruit driven red from Gascony in south-west France, made from an unusual mix of grape varieties. To merlot is added syrah for spice and body and pinot noir for finesse and delicacy. Lovely served on the cool side.
Örökség 'Heritage' Bikavér, Takler 2018
Light, fresh and fragrant bikavér (bika = bull, vér = blood) from the excellent Takler winery in Szekszárd. From mainly kékfrankos, this is brimming with aromas of redcurrants and spices and has a juicy, refreshing palate.
Lagrein Riserva, Castel Firmian Mezzacorona 2019
From this slightly below the radar Italian grape variety lagrein, we have a riserva, aged in large oak barrels, softening the tannins and creating a rich fully fruited red with gentle spice on the finish.
Benedict Red Cuvée, Dveri Pax 2013
Slovenian red that is mellow on the nose with plummy red fruit notes and a twist of black pepper. The fruit shows maturity but the tension of the wine gives the impression it is far younger. The palate is mid-weight, fresh and focused with nice plummy, sour cherry notes. Fun and something a little different given the age.
