Online - 150th Anniversary Generation Series taste-along
The Generation Series is an unmissable limited-edition range that offers a deliciously modern take on the most celebrated wine styles of the past 150 years. Join buyer Matthew Horsley and events manager Ewan Murray as they taste and talk about a number of wines from the range – and you have the chance to buy some of the wines and taste along with them!
All wines in The Generation Series are one-time bottlings offering a taste of liquid history. We’ve divided the range up into four chapters, each one covering a 50-year period. Matthew and Ewan will be discussing and tasting four wines from Series 1 and 2. We have let you know which below so you can buy in advance and taste with us. We’ll also be giving you a sneak peek at two wines from Series 3, yet to be released.
The Generation Series is part of our 150th anniversary celebrations, and has been crafted by our buyers and some of our best-loved producers. Inspiration for the range has been gleaned from our archive of wine Lists. Our buyers looked at the types of wines being enjoyed by members in the past and worked with our winemakers to create new, modern incarnations of historic wines. Each carries a unique label taken from a pictorial history or Vineline depicting The Wine Society’s 150-year history.
We will be discussing the evolution of wine across our history, using six wines to illustrate some of the points. Four of the wines are already available, and these are below. Feel free to buy one or more of them to taste along with us during the event. A further two wines will also feature, but these won't be available until our upcoming third release of these wines on 6th June.

Tasting our wines online is an exciting new proposition for The Wine Society. For these events, we encourage members to buy the wines specified, sometimes this may be one or two bottles and other times it might be a tasting samples pack or mixed case created for the event. To get the most out of these events, we do suggest correlating as closely as possible to our chosen list as these are the wines that will be explained and explored by our knowledgeable team.

Matthew Horsley
Matthew joined the Buying team in 2017 after more than three years in the Tastings & Events team. He took over the buying responsibilities of England, Greece and Hungary in 2020 as well as overseeing accessories.
Ewan Murray
Ewan has been at The Society since January 2004. With nine years in the Tastings & Events team, followed by 10 years as The Society’s PR Manager, he has now returned to his ‘spiritual home’, hosting many of our in-person events. A fluent French and Italian speaker, he loves communing with our growers, imparting knowledge to members and making dreadful puns. Favourite food and wine pairing: poppadoms and Cristal 1997!
