Per Se Inseparable Gualtallary Malbec 2019

4.000000000 star rating 3 Reviews
This is one of the finest and freshest malbecs I have tasted from Argentina. Intense and floral aromas, ripe, velvety and fresh (pH 3.5) palate. A cold vintage, early April harvest, and a very cool site at 1,450m at Gualtallary with high amounts of limestone in the soil explain the perfumed and fine-boned style.

Decanter

Cigar box, peat and tea leaf nose. Concentrated dark fruit. Full-bodied, harmonious with a balsamic finish.

Smells riper and spicier than the Quimay range and amazing to see it is unoaked with all the sweet spice in the aroma. Yet it also has a mineral side to it. Intense, mouth-watering with the finest of tannins enhancing all that freshness. Deep, long and pure with some red fruits appearing on the finish. Terrific wine and still very youthful, more perfumed as it opens. Complex and yet ‘well disciplined’.

The 2019 Inseparable comes from the original vineyard planted by the monks in the Monasterio del Cristo Orante in Gualtallary Monasterio at 1,450 meters above sea level. The destemmed grapes fermented in concrete with indigenous yeasts and matured in concrete for one year, different from the first vintage that matured in oak. 2019 was a cold and wet year when they picked in early April in a year with a small ripening, the last vineyard they harvest. The nose has flowers and dark fruit and notes of graphite and earth, and the palate has a strong chalky sensation. It's ripe at 14.5% alcohol and juicy, with good freshness and acidity (pH 3.5 after malolactic and 6.2 grams of tartaric acid). It's a serious and somewhat austere red. 7,700 bottles were filled in March 2020. It was a good yielding year. Rating 94
