Benchmark traditional-style Rioja, which is extensively aged in barrel and bottle. A smoky and delicious wine with depth, richness and fine soft tannins.
Tondonia red is classically 75% tempranillo with 15% garnacha and 10% graciano and mazuelo combined. The reserva spends six years in barrel (just one would satisfy the DO regulations) and several more than the required two in bottle before release. The 2011 has superb vibrancy, fine texture and Tondonia's unique flavour that straddles savoury complexity with violet, red-berry-fruit flavour.
A refined, fully mature Rioja from the excellent 2005 vintage that has been ageing in Lopez de Haro's cellars until now. This is graceful and fine with complex flavours of tobacco and cedarwood. The bodega is located in Sonsierra where the poor but well drained limestone-clay soils at 500-600 metres altitude up in the foothills provide a perfect terroir for old-vine tempranillo, grown on bush vines and hand harvested at low yields.
