Wines included
La Rioja Alta Viña Arana Gran Reserva, Rioja 2015
Benchmark traditional-style Rioja, which is extensively aged in barrel and bottle. A smoky and delicious wine with depth, richness and fine soft tannins.
López de Heredia Viña Tondonia Reserva, Rioja 2011
Tondonia red is classically 75% tempranillo with 15% garnacha and 10% graciano and mazuelo combined. The reserva spends six years in barrel (just one would satisfy the DO regulations) and several more than the required two in bottle before release. The 2011 has superb vibrancy, fine texture and Tondonia's unique flavour that straddles savoury complexity with violet, red-berry-fruit flavour.
López de Haro Classica Gran Reserva, Rioja 2005
Described as ‘amazing’ by several of our Wine Champions tasters, this star turn in our Rioja tasting shows the graceful complexity that comes with a great vintage given time in the cellar. Layered with tobacco and cedar notes, it was hailed for its ‘superb value’ and while mature, it still has ‘tannins that will make it so good with food’.
