Quinta do Escudial Encruzado, Dão 2021
The encruzado grape is one of Portugal's greatest offerings to the world of fine wine and this is a delicious unoaked example from the Dão region. The nose shows notes of meadow flowers, fleshy white fruit and a mouthwatering minerality. Not dissimilar to a good quality chardonnay. The palate combines texture and freshness, with good breadth on the palate and pillowy fruit, but held together nicely with focused structured acidity. There are notes of honeysuckle, peach, toasted almond, apple and lemon pith. The finish is long and precise. A medium-bodied, pure white wine, which which shows why this grape is worth following, Drinking well now and starting to develop a hint of toastiness.
