Domaines Tatin

A third generation family-owned domaine at Brinay in the Loire valley's Central Vineyards area producing Quincy, Reuilly and sparkling wines from sauvignon blanc, pinot gris, pinot noir and pinot blanc grape varieties. Jean Tatin and his wife Chantal Wilk took over the running of the Domaine du Tremblay from Jean's father Raymond in 1988 and developed wine production from the 1990s. Their youngest daughter Maroussia joined them in 2010. Their Quincy Vin Noble comes from vineyards planted on gravelly clay soils, comprising young, mature and old vines up to sixty years old. Their Reuilly Les Demoiselles Tatin red, white and rosé wines come from a separate property established in 2002 but the wines are made at the Domaine du Tremblay.

Loire Vintage 2019

et another exceptional vintage! Perhaps these atypical years are the vintages of the future? 2019 was another year of extremes and nail biting, with temperatures even in the Loire Atlantique nudging 40C more than once last summer. With so little rain, there were concerns over whether the fruit would actually ripen, but sure enough, some rain did arrive: a little in mid-August, a little more in early to mid-September, depending on the location, refreshing the vines and allowing them to ripen their healthy fruit in fine conditions.

There will be some great reds, with the chance to keep some in store for the future. Whites are ripe and healthy, with, remarkably, a little more freshness than the 2018s, so it will be a great year to explore the length of the Loire.

The Times

A rare Loire red with lively cranberry and rose-petal scented fruit.
