Reyneke Organic Syrah, Stellenbosch 2020

4.500000000 star rating 2 Reviews
Reyneke are global leaders in sustainable viticulture and their organic syrah is a celebration of the quality of fruit that results. Exceptionally pure with aromas of rose, blueberries and cracked black-pepper notes. The palate is finely woven yet generous and will benefit both decanting and lightly chilling.

Reyneke Wines

Reyneke is an old Stellenbosch property which was established in 1863 but did not bottle its own wine until 1998. Until recently it was wholly owned by the Reyneke family, and current generation biodynamic and surfing specialist Johan Reyneke continues to farm the vineyards.

The property is now in the same stable as Boekenhoutskloof and one of the latter’s former winemaking team, Rudiger Gretschel, has taken the wines to a new level of quality as Cellarmaster, including their first five-star wine in the influential Platter’s Guide 2011, while respecting the environmentally sound philosophies that Johan Reyneke holds so dear.

The estate is a member of South Africa’s Biodiversity in Wine Initiative, WIETA accredited, and makes all its own compost and biodynamic preparations on site. A wide range of grape varieties are planted, including mourvèdre, pinotage, shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc, with chenin blanc and sauvignon blanc for the whites.
