Riesling Kappelweg Vendange Tardive, Domaine Rolly-Gassmann 2005
This mid-slope vineyard parcel is of exceptional quality, planted on complex ancient blue-grey marl limestone soil. Pierre Gassmann is a master of this style and he succeeded brilliantly in 2005., a fantastic vintage for noble rot and this shows in this delightful riesling. Expect dried mango and honey notes combined with beeswax and smoky hints adding layers of complexity. It's a must with full-fat creamy (and particularly washed-rind) cheeses.
