Saarburger Rausch Riesling Auslese, Zilliken 2009

5.000000000 star rating 2 Reviews
This remarkable treat is a recent release from the estate and would make a lovely nectar to sip contemplatively at Christmas for its citrus notes with a touch of quince and orange peel. Utterly gorgeous. The 11 hectares of vines owned by the Geltz Zillikens in this historic vineyard grow in a variety of soils like Devonian slate and volcanic diabase, and the roots delve up to 10 metres in search of nutrients. From here their riesling draws its characteristic elegance and minerality.

Weingut Forstmeister Geltz-Zilliken

Forstmeister Geltz-Zilliken is the full name for the estate of Hans-Joachim Zilliken which is based in large part on the fine Saarburger Rausch vineyard. The rieslings form 10 ha are ripe and intense without harshness, and flavours range from cool lemon and lime fruit in Kabinett to nectarine and peach at higher levels. Hanno's daughter, Dorothee, also a wine-maker, trained in Geisenheim, the Pfalz and South Africa, joined him in 2007.
