This well-balanced Sicilian red blend is made of 60% nero d'Avola and 40% frappato. A small proportion of the former was allowed to raisin naturally on the vine to intensify the notes of Morello cherry and raspberry. The addition of frappato adds freshness and spice.

I have written before about the joys of the Frappato grape when in experienced hands and this Sicilian blend (with nero d'Avola) illustrates the point well. Here a gifted winemaker has added some dried grapes into the mix to provide extra depth and an increased flavour range. Dark with limited aromas, the result delivers smooth but distinctive black cherry, pomegranate and blackcurrant flavours embellished with menthol, clove and chocolate elements and lively acidity – but modest tannin.

The flagship wine from Santa Tresa ... made from a blend of frappato with nero d’Avola and aged in large oak casks. Well balanced with good depth of fruit flavour, it is made with some partially dried grapes which are left on the vine. Morello cherry and raspberry flavours with a touch of spice. Certified DOCG back in 1950, one of the top certifications and the only one on Sicily.
