Settlement Heritage Single Vineyard Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2023
Taken entirely from the Heritage vineyard which sits on the southern side of the Wairau Valley and has free-draining silty clay loam over a clay subsoil, with 30 year old sauvignon blanc vines. This is an excellent value example of serious top-tier Marlborough sauvignon blanc, 15% of which was wild fermented in old French barriques which brings texture and complexity of flavour to the wine. The remainder was fermented in stainless steel with two different yeast strains adding further to the complexity. The nose shows a super balance of fresh citrus and tropical fruits, with a delicate herbaciousness, notes of pine needles and a smart note of lemon and cream. The palate is crisp but with presence, with a ripe and juicy mid-palate and well integrated acidity. The finish bursts with tropical fruit flavours, nougat and a delicate hint of white pepper, which makes you want to go straight back for another sip.
