California Vintage 2015

2105 across the USA can be summed up fairly simply - early, quick, clean and intense!

It was a good fruit driven vintage in California. 2015 marks a fourth year of drought conditions across the region. A warm start to the season accelerated bud break and a few hot spells through August meant that picking started as early as the middle of the month. Yields were generally down due to the shortage of water, leading to very concentrated small berries.

2015 also follows the current trend for premium winemakers seeking fresher styles of wine (which earlier picking encourages).

This is bold wine but still well-balanced and would be one of those winesthat could put the cranberry sauce, which is really not a wines best friend, back in its place!

This full bodiedintensely fruity sour cherry and slightly smoky red packs a punch yet thealcohol level isn't too obvious. Ideal if you're having beef or pork instead ofroast turkey.

This is a classic rich zinfandel from California, withsweet and sour cherry cola notes on the nose and a long dark-cherry finish. Afull-bodied red, it is great with burgers and steak, but it is also refreshingwith very moderate tannins and, for us, really works with roasts and richtrimmings too. It's also a 14.5 per cent wine so it has the propensity to getyou merry and happily falling asleep in front of the telly.
