Small Wonders Whites

A complex, food-friendly, dry and longflavoured white from south-west France made from a majority of petit manseng, and aged in large oak vats. It will go well with rich tasting dishes, sweetbreads maybe or a mushroom risotto.

Low yields and attention to detail on this tiny biodynamic estate explain the high quality of this ripe, firm-fleshed white Burgundy. 2022 is an excellent vintage. Unoaked, fermented in tile-lined cement tanks and kept on its yeast lees until bottling in the spring, it maintains a fine lemony freshness.

Zesty, smart and refreshing sauvignon which demonstrates the finesse possible in Marlborough. This is full of life and the perfect palate pick-me-up, with notes of lemon and a hint of gooseberry on the nose and a fresh, focused and grippy apple and lemon-laden palate. Never OTT and perfectly balanced. A joy to drink alongside pasta primavera, the spring or summer vegetables in the dish spiked with tangy feta or goat’s cheese for creamy but tangy oomph.

A great Sicilian white blend, based on the catarratto lucido grape of the island that has a beautiful floral, nectarine, pear and lemon-peel aroma and soft, medium body that finishes crisp and dry. Donnafugata is owned by the Rallo family, taking its name from Queen Maria Carolina of Naples who, with her husband Ferdinand IV, fled the city on the arrival of Napoleon's troops and took refuge in Sicily.

Classy California chardonnay in a dry, refreshing style with green-apple, melon and citrus notes that are supported by a little French oak vanilla. It keeps all the body and spice that many associate with the style, but is handled with fantastic skill and sensitivity.
