South African Fine Wine Icons
A wine established in South Africa's fine wine firmament since its maiden release in 2011. Ripe and textured, as ever, enhanced by typical tension from the small old-vine semillon portion, bringing citrus pith and woody herb notes to chenin’s yellow-peach fruit. A well-deserved five-stars in Platter’s Wine Guide once again.
A return to using some large oak foudres has produced an elegantly classic, approachable style with purity of fruit and resolved tannins. the blend in 2018 is 67% cabernet sauvignon, 19% merlot, 10% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot.
The sheer versatility of the Cape blend is much appreciated by smart sommeliers confronted with challenging gastronomy. This velvety expression of ripe, dark Swartland fruit is based on syrah, with support from other Mediterranean varieties and a touch of cabernet sauvignon.
