South African Small Producers Mixed Case
Wines included
Hogan 'Mirror for the Sun' Cabernet Franc, Stellenbosch 2022
An intensely aromatic and herbaceous cabernet franc that lovers of the Loire are sure to enjoy. With aromas of redcurrants, tomato leaf and black pepper, the palate is classically structured with great lift to the fruit. A worthy 5* in the influential Platter's South African Wine Guide for a wine that screams cabernet franc.
Newton Johnson Family Vineyards Chardonnay, Upper Hemel en Aarde Valley 2022
Seriously impressive South African chardonnay that shows great concentration on the palate alongside the region's natural freshness and purity. 25% new oak gives nutmeg and spice notes to complement the elegant peach and citrus fruit.
Van Loggerenberg 'Kamaraderie' Chenin Blanc, Swartland 2022
From vines planted in 1966, this is quintessential Swartland chenin with an intense, linear palate showing lime and green-apple fruit, firm acidity and a structured palate. Best enjoyed after a few more years in bottle this South African white will open up in a decanter if drunk now.
Beaumont Jackal's River Pinotage, Bot River 2021
From a combination of old ('74 & '95) and young ('18) vineyards this impressive, classically honed pinotage combines richness and spice with red-fruit youth and vitality. The tannins are beautifully managed resulting in a long, complex wine and one of the finest expressions of pinotage in the Cape.
Miles Mossop 'Max', Stellenbosch 2020
Mile's 'Max', named after his eldest son, is one of the best value Bordeaux blends in South Africa. Comprising 56% cabernet sauvignon, 23% merlot and the remainder petit verdot and cabernet franc, the 2020 is generous and fruit-forward with sweet tannins and bags of pleasure, with cassis and cigar box in spades.
The Foundry Grenache Blanc, Voor Paardeberg 2022
Fascinating grenache blanc a third of which fermented in oak, a third in terracotta and a third in stainless steel. The result is a toasty, smoky yet generous South African white with flavours of stone-fruits, supple acidity and a savoury mineral finish.
