South of France Reds
Wines included
Cabardès, Château de Pennautier 2021
A deeply coloured, fruity and balanced Languedoc red, with a savoury finish. Neighbouring Minervois and the city of Carcassonne, Cabardès is unusual in the Languedoc for its choice of grape varieties from Bordeaux as well as more traditional varieties. All thrive in a region where Mediterranean and Atlantic influences combine.
Tannat-Syrah Aramis, Vin de France, Laplace 2023
A rather lovely, full and fruity red from musketeer country in south-west France. Syrah and the more local tannat work well together here.
Cuvée Laborie, Pays d'Oc 2024
The 2024 vintage marks a return to the classic Laborie blend of carignan and grenache, with a splash of merlot adding suppleness. Brilliant value southern French red delivering fresh, uncomplicated fruit and soft tannins.
Cantoiseau Rouge, Vin de France 2024
A well-rounded, soft, fruity red from the Languedoc. There's a touch of spice that creates a little complexity. Great value.
Duo du Midi, Pays d'Oc 2024
Brilliant, fruity and fresh-tasting red made from cabernet franc and malbec, both of which work well in the heat of the Languedoc. The balance is lovely and the fruit flavours are reminiscent of raspberry and plum. Great value.
Marcel Malbec, du Cèdre, Vin de France 2023
Made from Cahors fruit and from one of the top estates, this is a soft, ripe-flavoured red with a twist of raspberry and plum. An uncomplicated red that could even be served slightly chilled. Malbec was once more widely planted having been a much more important varietal in Bordeaux. In Cahors, it is the main varietal, rarely less than 80% in any blend and often more. Malbec needs heat and sunshine to ripen fully and it thrives in the semi-continental climate of this part of the Lot Valley.
