Spain 2017 Reservas
Wines included
Contino 937 Reserva, Rioja 2017
A flattering Rioja, specially blended and exclusively made for The Wine Society, from Contino's vineyards in the Alavesa. 937 is a beautifully scented, pure and stylish Rioja which includes a component of the property`s finest ‘Olivo` plot. It will reward patience.
Bóhorquez Reserva, Ribera del Duero 2017
From a notable estate in Spain's fine wine region Ribera del Duero and one that has been immensely popular with members. 2017 produced low yields (down 40% versus a normal year) but the quality is superb. The young wine is bright in appearance with elegant, pure fruit, a hint of cedar and beautifully structured. The wines of this property have a track record of ageing and we recommend a drinking window of 2025 to 2032. As it matures it will become silky, mellow and cedary. The 2017 is mostly tinto fino (tempranillo), with a 12% cabernet and a touch of merlot, aged for 14 months in French (80%) and US (20%) oak barrels.
La Rioja Alta Viña Ardanza Reserva, Rioja 2017
From a smaller vintage of highly concentrated grapes, the 2017 Ardanza is once again a masterpiece of long-aged Rioja with power, depth and complexity. What sets La Rioja Alta apart from other traditionalists is that their wines also retain plenty of sweetness, vigour and flavour on the palate.
